rbST and Farm Economics

Critics of rbST frequently contend that its use threatens the economic viability of dairy farms, especially smaller dairy farms, for the sake of dairy cattle milk production. However, many people both within and outside the dairy industry dispute these claims related to dairy industry production management. Furthermore, actual experience since the introduction of rbST in 1993 has demonstrated that rbST use does not threaten the survival of small dairy farms; indeed, small farms are among the most successful users of the product.
